Speed Darlington defies NAPTIP, demands ₦2.5M fee

Darlington Okoye, known online as Speed Darlington, was declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on Friday, June 27, 2025, over alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking charges .

In a defiant video posted June 30, he called for the removal of all “wanted” images and refused to honour the summons . He said, “I did not commit any crime,” and set a fee of ₦2.5 million plus travel costs for his “appearance” .

Supporters praise his stand as brave. They say public shaming should not replace due process. Critics warn that mocking a federal agency may worsen his legal troubles .

Legal experts note that refusing a lawful summons can carry penalties, even before trial. They urge him to seek legal counsel rather than set appearance fees .

This case raises questions about social media’s role in legal notices. Should agencies label suspects online? Or does that risk defamation? Share your views below and help foster a balanced discussion.
