LAGOS POLICE INVESTIGATE ALLEGED PATRICIDE INVOLVING 19-YEAR-OLD SON

Authorities in Lagos State have launched an investigation into the death of a 19-year-old boy, reportedly beaten to death by his father. The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Superintendent Hundeyin revealed that the Alagbado Police Division received a report on Tuesday regarding the tragic event. According to the information, the incident occurred on July 5th, around noon. The father, identified as Olumide, allegedly inflicted a severe wound on his son, Adeyemi, using a shovel, purportedly as a form of discipline for an unspecified offense.

The grievous injury resulted in immediate medical intervention. Adeyemi was initially taken to a nearby hospital but was later transferred to the General Hospital in Ikeja due to the worsening condition of his injury. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries, with a tetanus infection identified as the cause of death by the attending medical personnel.

Police detectives have since visited the scene as part of their ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the father, Olumide, is reported to be at large, prompting a manhunt by the authorities.

This distressing incident highlights the urgent need for addressing domestic violence and promoting non-violent conflict resolution within families. The community and law enforcement agencies are called upon to work together to prevent such tragedies and ensure justice is served.
