Portable Arranged for Assault Charges in Ogun State

Nigerian street hop artist Portable, also known as Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, is back in the spotlight. He has been brought before the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The police say he is charged with assaulting officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

Portable was declared wanted on February 18, 2025, after OGPDPA officials visited his bar to check for proper permits. On February 5, during a routine inspection, the officials found his building unapproved. Portable and a group of nine associates are accused of blocking, assaulting, and even chasing the officers. Some officials were injured as they tried to escape.

After hiding for a few days, Portable turned himself in to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba on February 19. Soon after, he was handed over to the Ogun State Police Command. This morning, he appeared in court to face the charges.

Local police say the incident happened at around 10:00 am in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu, Ota. They allege that Portable led a group of armed men. The group used cutlasses and other dangerous tools in the assault. Meanwhile, nine of his associates have already been arraigned on charges of felony, armed violence, obstruction, and intent to kill. They have been granted bail of ₦5 million each, with sureties that are licensed bond agents registered with the state.

In court, the prosecutor said that the assault was not random. The officials were on duty when they came to enforce building permits. Portable’s actions have sparked much talk in the community. Some people say strict action is needed, while others urge the law to be followed carefully.

Portable has a history of run-ins with the law. His past includes a 72-hour ultimatum and previous arrests. He is known not just for his hit song “ZaZoo Zehh” but also for his many controversies. Despite his fame, many question his behavior and the influence it has on young fans.

This update invites readers to share their thoughts on whether public figures should be held to higher standards. Constructive discussion is welcome, as the case highlights issues of public safety and respect for law enforcement.
