Yul Edochie’s Powerful Call to Embrace African Identity

Yul Edochie Speaks on African Identity

Yul Edochie recently hit the nail on the head with a powerful reminder about our roots. He said it plain and simple: God, in His infinite wisdom, made us Africans for a reason. Yet, somewhere along the way, we started doubting His plan.

According to Yul, we’ve allowed Western influences to seep so deep into our lives that we’re losing sight of who we are. From our traditions to our religion, everything African has been labelled “evil,” and sadly, many of us bought into that lie. Think about it—who decided that their ways are better than ours? Show us the God who appointed them as cultural referees!

Yul’s point is crystal clear: copying a few good things from other cultures is fine, but losing yourself in the process? That’s where the danger lies. The more we try to mould ourselves to fit into someone else’s definition of success, the further we drift from our strength as Africans.

The truth is, that our power lies in our originality—in our languages, traditions, and spirituality. Yul reminds us that being African is not just an identity; it’s a divine gift. If we keep measuring ourselves by foreign standards, we’re not only selling ourselves short but also disrespecting the uniqueness God gave us.

So, here’s the question Yul leaves us with. Are we ready to stop imitating and start celebrating? It’s time to reclaim our pride, our culture, and our strength. As he said, “We are Africans. God created us with our own ways, and we must maintain them.”
