Senator Ekwunife |
Senator Uche Ekwunife has been, in the spotlight for stating that the ongoing economic challenges, in Nigeria cannot be solely attributed to President Bola Tinubu's leadership tenure. However lets take a moment to reflect on this assertion. Blaming one individual or administration may seem like a solution when faced with times but the reality is much more complex and nuanced than it appears at first glance.
Although Tinubu's administration hasn't ruled for a time now it's impossible to overlook the impact of policies, on the lives of ordinary Nigerians. From cutting subsidies to changes it's safe to say that it hasn't been a walk, in the park since this government came into power. Granted they were handed a system to fix. Their decisions have certainly caused quite a stir.
Some people believe that Tinubu's sudden policy shifts have worsened the crisis, in Nigeria significantly by removing fuel subsidies. This move caused a rise in fuel prices which then triggered a series of cost increases in transportation expenses and the prices of items like food. Coupled with the devaluation of the Naira currency it's no surprise that Nigerians are experiencing increased strain more, than ever before.
Now, Ekwunife’s point might be to deflect the full weight of responsibility off Tinubu's shoulders, but it's hard to let this administration off that easily. Yes, Tinubu didn’t create the mess, but he sure has a hand in how it’s being handled right now—and let’s just say, the results are still out for debate.
