LASTMA Steps Up: Arrest of Fake Officer Sends a Strong Message

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority

In a move that underscores the ongoing battle against corruption on our roads, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) recently arrested a man masquerading as one of their officers. This guy, Adewunmi Taiwo, 45, was reportedly extorting motorists at the Oshodi bridge, raking in between N15,000 and N25,000 daily. Quite the hustle, right?

Imagine rolling down the road, only to find someone in an official LASTMA uniform trying to intimidate you. That’s exactly what was happening. With a white Hiace Coaster Bus, he thought he could get away with it, but not on LASTMA’s watch. When officials searched his vehicle, they found the uniform he was using to deceive innocent drivers.

It turns out, Adewunmi isn’t just any ordinary guy; he hails from Ilesha in Osun State and is married with three kids. But that’s not the point—his actions put honest motorists at risk. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA’s general manager, issued a stern warning to anyone thinking of exploiting their identity. They’re serious about protecting the agency’s reputation and won’t tolerate this kind of misconduct.

This arrest goes beyond one individual – it serves as a reminder for all of us to stay alert and report anything that comes our way. Have you ever been, in a situation before. How did you handle it? How can we come together to ensure the safety of our community and roads? .
