Kanayo O. Kanayo - Nigeria Nollywood actor |
I came across a video from Kanayo O. Kanayo today, and what he pointed out hit me hard. He talked about his journey from Ibadan to Lagos about 80 kilometers without seeing a single police checkpoint or military stop. Smooth sailing all the way.
But then he raised a serious question have you ever driven on the Enugu-Onitsha road? If you have, you’d know exactly what he’s talking about. The number of police and army checkpoints there it’s ridiculous! You can barely go 200 meters without being stopped. Why is the Southeast so heavily policed?
The constant delays, the humiliation people face it’s beyond frustrating. Kanayo highlighted how, on the same stretch of federal roads in the Southwest, it’s a different story no delays, no constant checkpoints. It begs the question is the Southeast still part of Nigeria?
Look at the roads themselves. The condition of federal roads in the Southeast from Enugu to Onitsha, Port Harcourt, and beyond they’re in terrible shape. Meanwhile, other regions enjoy smoother, safer routes. What have we done to deserve this? Why is this happening to us. What have we done to face constant harassment and humiliation of our people every day?
"Indeed Kanayo makes a point, in advocating for change in the Southeast region that deserves improvement urgently. The persistent police presence coupled with extortion is negatively impacting businesses as livelihood s.It is time to de escalate the presence, in the Southeastern region and grant its residents the dignity they rightfully deserve."
