It been a tough time for the people of Borno, but they got some solid support heading their way. The just concluded and still fresh President-elect, Bola Tinubu has arrived Maiduguri and it is not an ordinary event. As a man he has come to reassure the affected community that has been devastated by floods to a certain extent. Located homes, hospitals, markets and schools were all damaged, and the region was left in desperate need of assistance as well as speedy rebuilds.
Each time the President is here to sympathize with the government and the people to make sure the latter feels that they are not alone in this ordeal. When disaster strikes like this, leadership isn’t about being distant—Tinubu is demonstrating that by showing up in person, looking to get a real sense of what people are going through.
This flood has wiped out critical infrastructures—places where everyday life happens, like schools where children learn, hospitals where families seek care, and markets that fuel the local economy. It’s no surprise that President Tinubu is putting his foot forward to offer a shoulder to lean on. We can only hope this visit translates into tangible action—after all, Borno needs more than just words right now.
