The iconic Nigerian singer, Onyeka Onwenu has died at the age of 72. The Elegant Stallion as she was known, Onyeka passes on and will be greatly missed but remembered through her music that touched the hearts of millions.
Onyeka Onwenu was more than a singer; she was a cultural ambassador, an advocate for the voiceless and a pioneer of sorts in terms of female entertainment. She only had classic songs in her illustrious career that spanned several decades with numerous hits across the board. Her soul-lifting tunes and deep lyrics cut across all genders, racial symbiosis bringing the world closer to her heart and making a lot of music lovers fancy her as one of the greatest African songwriters.
In addition to her music career, Onyeka was a fierce advocate for social justice and women's rights. You could see it in her work on stage and off. She then used her platform to speak about important issues and led by example which got more followers for change.
Though Onyeka is no longer with us, her legacy will live on amongst the generations to come. Her impact on music and society at large is immeasurable, she will forever be seen as one of the greatest artists to ever live.
While we mourn the loss of this amazing talent, let us celebrate her life and legacy instead. May her Soul Rest in Peace
