Qatari officials reported that two drones launched from Iran struck energy facilities in the country on Monday, prompting a halt to liquefied natural gas production .

The Qatari Ministry of Defense said in a statement that one drone targeted a water tank at a power plant in Mesaieed, an industrial city south of Doha . A second drone hit an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, the northern hub where state-owned QatarEnergy operates major liquefied natural gas infrastructure .

No casualties were reported from the strikes . The ministry stated that relevant authorities are assessing the damage and losses resulting from the attack .

Later on Monday, QatarEnergy announced it had stopped production. "Due to military attacks on QatarEnergy’s operating facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City and Mesaieed Industrial City in the State of Qatar, QatarEnergy has ceased production of liquefied natural gas and associated products," the company said in a post on the social media platform X .

The attacks on Qatar came as part of a wider wave of Iranian retaliation following joint military strikes by the United States and Israel on Saturday . Those strikes reportedly killed several top Iranian leaders, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei .

In response to the initial strikes, Tehran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as several regional countries that host US assets . Residents in major Gulf cities, including Doha, reported explosions and witnessed missile interceptions in the sky on Monday morning .

A spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry stated that the Iranian attacks targeted civilian infrastructure and said such actions could not go unanswered, adding that Doha reserved the right to retaliate .

The United States and six Arab nations, including Qatar, issued a joint statement condemning Iran’s missile and drone attacks across the region . The statement described the actions as "indiscriminate and reckless" and "a dangerous escalation that violates the sovereignty of multiple states and threatens regional stability" .

The signatories, which also included Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, reaffirmed their right to self-defense under international law .

Qatar is one of the world's largest exporters of liquefied natural gas. The Ras Laffan Industrial City is a critical hub for the country's energy sector .
