Osimhen Argument Overshadows Nigeria's 4-0 AFCON Victory

Nigeria advanced to the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over Mozambique. The match on Tuesday was dominated by the Super Eagles. Striker Victor Osimhen scored two goals in the victory. The team's performance was overshadowed by a public argument between players.

The incident occurred in the 62nd minute of the round of 16 match. Teammate Ademola Lookman did not pass the ball to an open Osimhen. The Galatasaray forward reacted with visible anger on the field. Television broadcasts showed Osimhen shouting and pointing at Lookman. He used pidgin English, telling Lookman not to try that again. Captain Wilfred Ndidi stepped in to calm the situation.

Minutes later, Osimhen asked to be substituted. He was replaced by Moses Simon in the 68th minute. Some sections of the crowd booed as Osimhen left the pitch. The team held its lead to secure a decisive 4-0 victory.

The public argument drew swift criticism from officials and fans. Ibraheem Abdullateef commented on the event on social media. He is the Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Kwara State Governor. He called Osimhen a big talent with poor character. Abdullateef stated the forward acts disrespectfully when things do not go his way. He said such behavior can create fear and distrust within a team. It could also hurt creativity and overall team unity, he warned.

Many fans online agreed with this assessment. One supporter described Osimhen's actions as very silly. Another fan called the behavior very irritating. Some attributed the issue to pride. One social media post suggested Osimhen thinks he is better than his teammates.

Nigeria's coach, Jose Peseiro, addressed the incident after the match. He told reporters that these things happen in football. Peseiro said the heat of competition can lead to strong emotions. He confirmed the issue was resolved in the dressing room after the game. The coach emphasized that the team remains united and focused on the tournament.

Nigeria will now prepare for its AFCON quarterfinal match this weekend. The team aims to win its fourth continental title. The Nigerian Football Federation has not made an official statement about the on-field dispute. Team officials often handle internal matters privately.
