Dalung warns Tinubu’s defeat in 2027

Solomon Dalung, former Youth and Sports Minister, says President Tinubu will lose in 2027. He spoke in an interview on June 18, 2025, with Daily Post. He said even if Tinubu names his son Seyi as INEC chairman, victory will slip away .

Dalung said Tinubu’s policies hurt ordinary Nigerians. He pointed to rising hunger and job loss. He argued these make Tinubu “the people’s enemy” . He used a Hausa proverb to stress his point: if the butcher’s knife lives on, will animals celebrate? He meant defecting politicians don’t reflect voters’ will.

Recently, governors from Delta and Akwa-Ibom joined APC. Dalung said these moves won’t win votes. In Delta, the governor’s mandate was contested until the Supreme Court stepped in. In Akwa-Ibom, lawmakers quit rather than follow their governor. These actions show elites’ moves lack mass backing .

Appointing Seyi Tinubu to head INEC won’t change public mood, Dalung argued. He said Nigerians know when results are genuine. Hunger and hardship weigh more than any INEC chief’s role. He warned against trusting a single family to oversee polls.

Surveys show 80% of Nigerians express discontent with the economy. Dalung said food prices and power outages hit families hardest. He said children are out of school and hospitals are underfunded . He added no rigging plan can outdo widespread misery.

Dalung is part of talks to unite opposition forces. He said coalition is not the main issue. Instead, real change comes from poor Nigerians tired of hardship. He trusts voters to choose based on performance, not party labels .

• Political Analyst Aisha Bello: She says Dalung’s warning echoes wider sentiment. Voters demand action on jobs and security.

• Economist Chinedu Okafor: He notes growth remains below 3%, too low for rising population. He predicts economic pain will drive votes.

APC must tackle welfare issues now. Dalung said patch-up policies won’t work. He urged real reforms in agriculture, education, and health. He warned the party could fracture under public anger.

Dalung praised youth groups pushing for accountability. He said social media and town halls give voice to the poor. He urged election monitors to watch closely for fairness.

As 2027 draws near, Tinubu’s camp must shift focus to voters’ needs. Dalung’s message is clear: power plays alone won’t win. He said performance, not patronage, decides elections.

Solomon Dalung’s forecast is stark. He predicts Tinubu’s defeat, regardless of INEC chairmanship. He calls on all parties to listen to Nigerians’ plea for relief and progress.
