VeryDarkMan and the Asset Bank case mystery |
It is said that “Every day, some sort of problem is bound to arise." And that is how it was with this Asset Bank case. So here goes nothing: missing bank statements were a big deal. If you have been following along, then you will remember that some statements from a couple of years ago were missing. Interestingly, the missing accounts were what they called the ‘Diamond Yellow Accounts’.
According to the bank, these were accounts created back when Diamond Bank partnered with MTN. You know those “quick money” accounts with a cap of ₦300,000? Yep, those ones. Apparently, the account numbers start with “222” or something like that. But when someone asked the bank staff, “So, every account starting with ‘222’ is a Diamond Yellow Account?” The response was… awkward silence. Not exactly convincing, right?
Here’s where it gets even spicier: the affected account holder never received those statements, which raises the question: why hide them in the first place? If you’ve got nothing to hide, why the secrecy? This only made things messier because, now, nobody knows who’s being honest. And trust me, in matters like this, once credibility takes a hit, customers start running.
Oh, and speaking of running, there’s a side story about the account owner’s laptop and phone mysteriously vanishing. The last thing anyone heard was something about a girlfriend disappearing with the goods. That’s not helping anyone track anything, but hey, what do I know?
Fast forward through all the back and forth. Guess what? No resolution. It’s just another day in Nigeria, where banking drama keeps everyone on their toes. But here’s the kicker: the guy supposedly had millions spread across multiple banks, yet the bank causing trouble is the one playing dumb. Meanwhile, the law says a dying confession carries weight. If the account holder said there was money there, shouldn’t that matter?
Anyway, here’s some advice: If you have money in the bank, do not act as if you do not. At least one person should know who in your family or friends you are well off. Even, write a will. Family members shouldn’t have to search for you when you are no longer here.
RIP to the account holder. And is there a bright side? The mama has also gotten her first flight thanks to VDM. At least there is one positive outcome of all this mess.
Stay sharp, people. Banking in Nigeria isn’t for the faint-hearted. Peace and love; don’t play.
