Police Rescue Mission Against Armed Bandits in Nigeria |
The Nigerian Police Force has also demonstrated that it means business in its recent operations. The police have recently carried out several successful and courageous operations in different states where not only the kidnapped victims were liberated but also criminals arrested and arms seized, thus setting an example that crime will not be allowed to flourish in the area.
In Katsina, things got intense on December 7 when armed bandits ambushed a vehicle carrying 10 people. But the police? They weren’t having it. After a fierce gunfight, the officers overpowered the attackers, leaving them wounded and fleeing while ensuring every passenger made it out unscathed. Later that night, another ambush attempt was foiled, with the same outcome—rescued victims, no harm done.
And it wasn’t only Katsina in the news. In Akwa Ibom, a young woman who had been captured and was to be transported for the purpose of trafficking was rescued, while two other victims were released from captivity after the police stormed a kidnappers’ den. In the same vein, in Rivers State, a kidnapper, a 10-year-old, confessed to a child and was directed happily by the returned police to his parent's hideout.
Taraba State also had action. Its police share busted a kidnapping ring, saving three people and taking away seven AK-47 rifles, thirty-two rounds of ammunition, and other lethal materials. They also arrested a kingpin and his informant, which helped in breaking a menace that had been a great concern in the area.
And let’s not forget Makurdi. The police busted an armed robbery syndicate responsible for countless highway heists. Arrests were made, and the haul included military gear, a G-3 rifle, and more proof that these criminals were prepared for trouble but clearly met their match.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun didn’t hold back in praising these officers. With the festive season around the corner, he’s doubling down on security to keep everyone safe.
