VeryDarkMan, the outspoken Nigerian activist, recently took to social media, shedding light on a distressing reality: a forgotten population of Nigerians languishing in Dubai’s prison cells. In a raw, heartfelt video, he didn’t hold back. He questioned why the government has stayed silent, even after 48 hours of these revelations going public. His message was simple but powerful who’s standing up for these people? Are they really destined to rot in cells without support or acknowledgment from those whose job it is to protect them?
For many of these Nigerians, going abroad was supposed to be a step toward a brighter future. But, as VeryDarkMan pointed out, things took a darker turn. The families they left behind back home may believe their loved ones are out there “making it,” sometimes assuming silence means success. Meanwhile, the reality is grim: many are stuck in jail, cut off from help, with no clear way back.
VeryDarkMan called out the silence from officials, especially Abike Dabiri, whose role includes overseeing the welfare of Nigerians in foreign lands. Why hasn’t there been any official response? Who will ensure that these individuals are not neglected and overlooked in societys fabric of life beyond the worries of an activist but a broader societal issue that challenges our values and morals as a community?
His call to action has sparked a wave of conversations. Shouldn’t there be some active effort from our leaders to protect Nigerians in situations like this? Are we doing enough to ensure their rights are respected, or is it simply out of sight, out of mind? It’s a reminder that our collective voice can push for change, and people like VeryDarkMan are out here making sure those voices are heard.
