His leadership journey began in 1987 when he entered the Nigerian Defence Academy and became part of a group of individuals committed to safeguard and enhance the nation.
He became a Second Lieutenant, in the Nigerian Infantry Corps as part of the 39 Course, in 1992. Embarked on a path marked by discipline and bravery for the next five years.
Over three decades of service, Lt. General Lagbaja moved through the ranks, not as someone who simply wore a title, but as a true leader who carried the weight of responsibility.

He held various critical positions, including serving as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and later with the 72 Special Forces Battalion. In all his positions he showed dedication and his loyalty, to the people, under his command never wavered.
Not were his beliefs a part of who he was. Also the influence he had in real life situations. General Lagbaja was actively involved in key operations aimed at ensuring national stability and safety.

From Operation ZAKI in Benue, which aimed to restore peace amidst conflicts, to Lafiya Dole in Borno, addressing security challenges in the Northeast, he played pivotal roles.
He also led efforts in Operation Udoka in the Southeast and Operation Forest Sanity across Kaduna and Niger States, each a testament to his strategic mind and his dedication to peace in troubled areas. For him, these were not just assignments but missions to bring stability and security to every corner of Nigeria.
He didn't just strive for greatness, in the field of battle; he also excelled academically by graduating from the U.S Army War College with a Masters degree, in Strategic Studies that showcased his intellect and strategic abilities.

Outside the uniform, Lt. General Lagbaja was a husband and father, a man whose life was anchored by his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mariya, and their two children, who, along with the nation, mourn the loss of a husband, father, and hero. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a statement, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family and to the Nigerian Armed Forces. In his words, the President honored not only the achievements of Lt. General Lagbaja but the values he represented – bravery, integrity, and unyielding service.
