Kanayo O kanayo |
So, here’s the tea: This man’s motorbike gets taken by the road safety officers, and somehow this leads to him stripping down to nothing. Imagine standing there, vulnerable, while people whip out their phones and start snapping pics. It’s more like a public shaming ceremony than law enforcement, if you ask me.
Now, Kanayo O. Kanayo (yep, the Nollywood legend) weighed in on this, and boy, did he make some solid points. He brought up Section 34 of the Nigerian Constitution, which straight-up states that every individual has the right to dignity. So how on earth does this kind of treatment even fly? Laws are important to follow and enforce; however there is no provision that suggests resorting to stripping someone as a means of communication.
If you violate the law and get caught up in matters; do remember that there will be consequences, without any room, for negotiation or exceptions; however it is crucial to distinguish between upholding the law and stripping away someone's humanity outright. And let’s not forget, laws are made for people—not the other way around. This isn’t a movie where humiliation is the climax; it’s real life, and people have rights that need to be respected.
Think about it what kind of message does this send? Sure, law enforcement’s gotta do their job, but when it crosses into public shaming territory, that’s a whole new level of wrong. This isn’t just about the guy who got humiliated; it’s about every Nigerian who sees this and wonders, “Could that be me next?”
We all desire a society where safety and adherence, to laws are valued; however it should not come at the expense of depriving individuals of their dignity in a sense. Hence it's crucial for law enforcement officials to understand that while they uphold regulations they must also treat individuals with decency. Lets be honest. If you diminish someone's dignity are you truly upholding justice or are you simply breaking someone down ?
And here’s the kicker this isn’t just an isolated incident. It raises bigger questions about the relationship between the people and those who are supposed to protect them. If law enforcement can do this so casually, where do we draw the line? This is a wake-up call for everyone involved: let’s demand better. Not just from those in uniform but from the society that allows this kind of thing to happen.
In the end, we’ve gotta ask ourselves: What’s the cost of keeping order? If trading someone's dignity, for a cost is the case then perhaps it's time to reassess the essence of "justice." Lets just pray we steer clear of a future where public shaming becomes the practice, in our society.
