President Tinubu on Nigeria's Tough Times: 'I'm Here to Work, Not for the Money

President Bola Amend Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu is not shying away from the reality of Nigeria current challenges. In a recent meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, he made it clear that he's here to make a difference not to chase wealth or power.

The President, speaking to former Senate President Ken Nnamani and other political leaders, didn't hold back. "I didn’t come to look for money. I came to work," he said, his voice steady with conviction. For Tinubu, the focus is on delivering results that matter whether it’s improving infrastructure, boosting food and energy security, or enhancing education.

But let us face it there's no sugarcoating it. Times are tough, and Tinubu acknowledged that openly. He questioned the decisions of the past, asking, "How did we get here?" His point? We’ve neglected key areas that should have been priorities all along. Communities that produce oil, the so called "golden goose" of the economy, were overlooked. Schools that should be places of inspiration are crumbling, with low enrolment and little encouragement for students.

Tinubu message was simple but striking: we have to face up to our mistakes and work toward fixing them. Instead of pointing fingers or complaining about low school enrolment, he urged us to look inward and ask, “Did we do enough to make education appealing to our children?” It is a hard hitting question that cuts right to the heart of where we are today.

He’s not pretending the road ahead will be easy. But Tinubu's not backing down from the task. And maybe, just maybe, that kind of leadership is what Nigeria needs right now a leader who’s here to serve, not gain.
