Edo Governor Honors Afrobeats Icon Rema with Arena Dedication

Rema Dome: A Celebration of Edo’s Cultural Heritage

In a proud nod to local talent, Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced the renaming of the Edo Arena after the globally acclaimed afrobeats sensation, Rema. The venue, now known as *Rema's Dome*, honors the Benin-born artist's international achievements and his contributions to elevating Edo's cultural profile.

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, recently returned home for a much-anticipated concert at Ogbe Stadium, coinciding with the groundbreaking ceremony of the 6,000-capacity arena. Governor Obaseki emphasized that Rema's meteoric rise as a global music ambassador mirrors the ambitions of the state to attract international attention and investment, boosting local tourism and creating jobs for Edo youths. The *Rema Dome*, strategically located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground in Benin City, will serve as a hub for events, conferences, and large-scale gatherings, putting Edo State on the map for cultural and entertainment tourism.

Obaseki’s decision shows that, on the one hand, culture and development are interconnected as the arena is to attract people to feel the diversity of Edo’s culture while, on the other hand, more opportunities for the local economy may be introduced. It also brings governor’s agenda of transforming the state into a cultural and entertainment hub with the name Rema at the forefront honed.

This dedication is not just about celebrating music but about fostering Edo’s future. It's a reminder of how art, culture, and governance can intersect to bring about positive change in the community. What are your thoughts on naming iconic venues after contemporary artists? Could it inspire more youth to pursue their dreams? Feel free to share your perspective.
