EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION: Court Upholds Asue Ighodalo's Candidacy

In a significant ruling, the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit seeking to nullify Asue Ighodalo's nomination as the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate in the Edo governorship election. The suit, filed by Philip Shaibu's allies, alleged that Ighodalo forged his voter's card, thereby disqualifying him from contesting the election.

However, Presiding Judge James Omotosho held that the suit was time-barred, having been filed outside the constitutionally mandated 14-day window. Moreover, the court found that the plaintiffs failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove Ighodalo's alleged forgery.

This ruling is a significant milestone in the Edo governorship election, as it solidifies Ighodalo's candidacy and underscores the importance of adhering to constitutional guidelines in election matters. The court's decision also highlights the need for political actors to ensure the integrity of their claims and allegations.
